About Us
We turn federal tax dollars into educational resources for Colorado students.
Sunnyside Rising is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) Scholarship Granting Organization serving public, private, and homeschool students across all 64 Colorado counties.
Our mission
Our mission: Education for All: ensuring every child - no matter where they learn or what their family can afford - can access the academic, social, and personal resources that set them up to succeed.
Sunnyside Rising exists to put a powerful, underused tool in the hands of every Colorado taxpayer: the ability to direct federal taxes they already owe into real educational resources for real students. We were founded on a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves access to the best academic, social, and personal resources, regardless of where they learn or what their family can afford.
Education for all means all. We serve the whole school community rather than only individual students who happen to qualify, because when a school receives SGO-funded technology, tutoring, enrichment programming, or special-needs services, every child in that building benefits.
What we do
Under IRC Section 25F, enacted through P.L. 119-21, eligible taxpayers can direct up to $1,700 of their existing federal tax liability, dollar for dollar, to fund educational resources at the school community they choose. Colorado has formally elected to participate. As the Colorado Scholarship Granting Organization that administers those contributions, our day-to-day work is:
Enrolling and verifying schools
We onboard public (including charter), private, and homeschool communities across Colorado and verify their eligibility to receive Section 25F funds.
Registering and guiding donors
We walk Colorado taxpayers (W-2 employees, the self-employed, and retirees alike) through eligibility, contribution limits, and the documentation their tax preparer will need.
Distributing funds to schools
We make quarterly distributions directly to vendors on behalf of enrolled schools, so funds convert into classroom resources rather than sitting in an account.
Publishing our numbers
We maintain real-time fundraising dashboards and commission annual independent audits, ensuring at least 90 cents of every donated dollar funds educational resources for students, paid directly to vendors.
Tracking federal guidance
We monitor IRS rulemaking on qualified expenses under IRC Section 530(b)(3)(A) and update our published guidance for schools and donors as regulations are finalized.
